Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #80

5th May, 2024

Congratulations to Garforth Town who have joined Emley AFC in promotion to Step 4 of the FA's National League System following their Play-Off victory on Saturday.

In front of a massive crowd of 1,391, the Miners played out a tight and nerve-wracking goalless draw with visitors Albion Sports before winning the penalty shoot-out 5-3 with Jason Davis slotting home the decisive spot kick.

It means that Garforth return to the Northern Premier League after an eleven year absence and we wish them and the Pewits all the best for next season whilst offering commiserations to Sports who have also had a fantastic campaign.

Meanwhile, Beverley Town and Shirebrook Town will meet next weekend to see who gains promotion to the Premier Division after their success in the Semi-Finals of the Division One Promotion Play-Offs.

Beverley fell behind to Retford United, Derek O'Connor with a 39th minute opener, but Grant Tait levelled in first half stoppage time and Benjamin Hinchliffe pounced for a late winner to send his side through with a 2-1 victory.

They will host Shirebrook who were 4-0 winners over Wakefield AFC, Kieran Watson with a first half hat-trick, one from the penalty spot, to put the Derbyshire side fully in control before Kiyani Clayton added the fourth on the hour mark.

There were two Division One games with Harrogate Railway Athletic completing their campaign with a 1-0 home victory over Louth Town, Ezio de Santis with the vital strike on 58 minutes.

The Rail end the season in eleventh spot whilst Louth finish in thirteenth.

And, George Morris, Callam Lytham and Grant Mitchell netted for Clay Cross Town as they beat visitors Athersley Recreation 3-1 with Nathan Perks' penalty being a consolation for the away side.
